Also great for Apple users who want no account.
Foodnoms has not paid to appear here and there is no affiliate link on this page. Every fact below was read off apps.apple.com, foodnoms.com on 7 October 2026. This is a documentary review of published information rather than a hands-on test, and it has not been clinically reviewed.
Ratings and review signals
The storefront score, its full sample size, and any unusually useful critical review. These are third-party signals, not our verdict.
Foodnoms runs only on Apple hardware and needs no account. One developer maintains it, and its database reached 750,000 foods on 500,000 user submissions.
The full ledger
15 fields. Every one resolves to a value, a qualified answer, not offered, not disclosed, or not verified. None is left blank, and none is filled from a third party unless its note says so.
- Free tier
- Yes
The company states the free version includes calorie and macro logging, the full food database, barcode scanning, reminders, Apple Health export and CSV export. The free tier is ad-free and requires no account.
- Barcode scanning
- free
- Data export
- free
The company states the free version includes CSV export, and the help documentation describes exporting the complete food log as CSV from Data Export in settings. The export covers the food log but not your goals. Note that the comparison table on the pricing page renders its free and paid marks as icons and can be read the wrong way; the help article is the clearer source.
- Adaptive targets
- Yes, called Calibrated Energy, Foodnoms+ only
It compares what you logged against how your weight actually moved, fits a smoothed trend rather than reading raw weigh-ins, works out apparent expenditure and suggests an adjusted goal. It suggests rather than auto-applies, recommends easing halfway toward a large change, and will not suggest lowering targets for someone already in the underweight range.
- Micronutrients
- Not disclosed
Micronutrient tracking is a Foodnoms+ feature covering net carbs, sodium, water, fiber, caffeine, alcohol, saturated fat, vitamins and minerals, but no total count is published on the pricing page, the about page or the App Store listing, checked 28 August 2026.
- Price per month
- $5.99
From the App Store purchase named Foodnoms+ Monthly, with a family option at $9.99. The vendor's own pricing page publishes no numbers and says to find pricing in the app. Additional unlabeled App Store entries at $11.99 and $19.99 also appear.
- Price per year
- $39.99
From the App Store purchase named Foodnoms+ Annual, with a family option at $69.99. A 7-day free trial accompanies the annual plan. Additional unlabeled entries at $59.99 and $109.99 also appear. There is no lifetime option, and the company states there are no plans to offer one.
- Claimed database size
- 750,000 unique foods
The vendor's own claim, published in April 2026 and credited to over 500,000 user submissions and corrections. Generic foods come from USDA FoodData Central, restaurant foods from restaurant-published information, and branded foods from manufacturer data with community corrections, plus selective imports from CIQUAL in France, CoFID in the UK and MEXT in Japan.
- Macro tracking
- Yes, on the free tier
Free nutrient tracking covers calories and macros only.
- Recipe import
- paid, after 10 free uses
Recipes import from a website via a Safari share action or by pasting a URL. The feature sits in the Foodnoms+ column, and the announcement post states free users get 10 uses before being asked to subscribe. That allowance is only documented in an October 2024 post and is not restated on current pages.
- Photo logging
- paid
Called Foodnoms AI and the AI Meal Scanner. The company says it grounds results in real database entries rather than asking a model to guess nutrition facts. Input is relayed to OpenAI for analysis.
- Platforms
- iOS, watchOS
Apple only. The App Store also covers iPadOS, macOS and visionOS. The company states plainly that Foodnoms is available only for iPhone, iPad and Mac and that an Android version is not being considered. There is no web app and no Wear OS support.
- Device syncing
- Apple Health, Apple Watch
Apple Health reads and writes calories, macros, vitamins, minerals, water and caffeine. Export to Apple Health is free; import, including burned calories, is Foodnoms+. There is a native Apple Watch app with complications. No Fitbit, Garmin, Oura, Whoop or Wear OS integration is stated.
- Founded
- 2019
The about page states Foodnoms was founded in 2019 by an independent developer.
- Ownership
- Algebraic Labs, LLC, a solo independent developer
The App Store seller and site copyright holder, based in Redwood City, California. The founder's first name is given as Ryan, but the site's own pages give two different surnames, so we are not publishing one.
The verdict
Foodnoms suits iPhone owners who want ad-free logging with no account, but it does not suit Android users or anyone tracking vitamins, because micronutrients require Foodnoms+.
Best for: Apple users who want local-first tracking without an account or ads.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
It is Apple-only with a high OS floor, requiring iOS 18, macOS 26.2 or watchOS 10.4, and the developer says an Android version is not being considered, so the app cannot follow you off the platform. The database is crowdsourced and moderated entirely by a language model with no human in the loop, and the developer's own published figures put barcode scan success at 85 to 91 percent in the US and 80 to 87 percent worldwide.
What was sourced
Every cell in the ledger above marked as a value or as a qualified answer was read off one of the 8 pages listed under sources, on . This confirms that the vendor published the claim; it does not independently prove the claim true. Nothing was taken from a review aggregator, an affiliate roundup or a third-party blog.
Nobody on this team installed Foodnoms, subscribed to it, logged a meal in it or contacted it. What is above is what the company is willing to put in writing on its own properties, which is a narrower claim than whether the app works well.
What was not verified
5 things could not be confirmed from a primary source. They are listed here rather than filled with a plausible value. If you have first-hand information on any of them, the corrections address is in the footer.
